Hump Day Thoughts

  • I am suppose to be at work right now, shift change to the night shift, however, due to my administrative assignment, I wont hit the streets until after June 1st. This is the first night shift my TEAM will work without me :(
  • I don't mind the night shift, however, I do prefer days.
  • It been over fifteen years since I have worked 12-hour shifts on nights.
  • The administrative gig is chugging along...getting close to the end finally. When we receive the award due to the outcome, I'll be sure to let you know.
  • It now feels like Texas weather...80 degrees, no breeze and the humidity about 100% yuk
  • I always (allways) forget, which way to spell always(allways). I have to put them both side by side to figure it out...always (allways)
  • And it is "always" by the way.
  • Bob's surgery went well and he is recuperating just fine.
  • I am ready to go camping, big time.
  • The Dallas Cowboys "bubble" practice building is built just like the WinStar Casino building. I have been to WinStar during a pretty big storm and saw the lights swinging, I wondered then how safe it was.
  • Went and saw the "Soloist" with Robert Downy Jr. and Jamie Fox...great movie -- edit...fantastic movie.
  • My grass is growing about 2 inches a day...I mowed last night and it looks like I'll be mowing again very very soon.
  • The Swing Flu scare was such a big time waste...much to do about nothing, it really got under my skin though...sometimes I can't stand the media and all its sensationalism.
  • I was interviewed one time by Grant Stinchfield from channel 5 news after a disabled man, trapped in his wheelchair burnt to death after his van caught on fire...he ask me if it was a gruesome scene...I had him turn the camera off and I asked him, "What do you think?" I told him not to ask anymore stupid questions...we turned the camera back on and no more stupid questions where asked..."was it gruesome"...what the hell do you think???
  • Speaking of gruesome, I am sure am glad I've got a break from working fatality accidents since I changed jobs.
  • My wife is in Alaska helping her mom take care of Bob, I miss her.
  • I'm going to eat at Panchos tomorrow evening, I likes me some Panchos.
  • And as they say in Mayberry...My best to you and yours"

Stay blessed...because it is wonderful.

Hump Day Thoughts Baby!!!!!!

  • I really believe that Wednesdays are the best day of the week.
  • I think rupturing my Patellar tendon would suck.
  • A week of cloudy days drains me down...bring on some sunshine.
  • Cerissa Desiree Arrington is a cool name.
  • I think Mike may win the Biggest Loser.
  • My wife's violin (fiddle) playing is like hearing Angels sing...
  • She plays this cool little ditty called "Mississippi Hotdog" ...video to come shortly.
  • I got a facebook page, look me up and we can become friends.
  • Swine Flu....oh my God...Swine Flu...enough already with the Swine Flu.
  • Mark Levin...I likes, I likes, I likes.
  • It is now officially mowing season...man, the grass is growing a foot a week.
  • American Idol Adam Lambert is a time waste.
  • My favorite Ipod game is called Chopper....I got up over 5000 points.
  • Had a great weekend with my in-laws from Alaska, except for the above mentioned "Patellar" issue.
  • I've got the best picture in the world of my mother-in-law...wanna see??????
  • I got a new American flag on the pole, the old one tore up due to all the wind we have had.
  • Project a work is going good, just really wanting to get through with it, very tedious.
  • I prefer watch TV from the DVR so I can fast forward through all the stupid commercials.
  • radiolovers.com is a great web site if you like downloading old radio show classics. My favorite are the old time crime shows.
  • I honestly believe I have learned more in the past 7-months at my new job about "true policing" than I have both experienced and have been taught in the past 6 years.
  • Blessed = Smile = I have a smile on my face most of the time.

The Return of "Hump Day Thoughts"

  • I bet I heard "Tax Man" by the Beatles today at least 10 times.
  • I sorta wanted to go to a Tea Party today, but I really don't like tea that much...bring on the Dr. Pepper parties, I'm all over it.
  • Christine and I did not have to pay taxes this year, I'm so glad about that.
  • In 1909, we worked until mid January to pay our yearly taxes, now mid April.
  • I listen to a local Fox affiliate station in the mornings on the way to work KLIF, the local talk show guy, Jeff Bolten is in Iraq this week talking with our troops...good radio...bit time good radio.
  • I read (book on tape) "Escape" last week...about the FLDS sect and how a lady and her 8 kids got out of it after 30 years...amazing story.
  • What do Prince, Oprah and Christine all have in common?....they all love the color "purple".
  • Shift Change + May + Midnight Shift + TEAM members staying together = Good times
  • I love Root Beer floats.
  • Went to the gun range yesterday for training, more good times...except for the sunburn.
  • Effective yesterday...my wife is now an official Highland Village Police Auxiliary Member...I am so proud of her. She has completed all her training and can go out and volunteer whenever she feels like it now.
  • My day shift "Administrative Assignment" is coming to a close, I now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  • I had Couscous for the first time last week...liked it, I really liked it.
  • When I lay down at night to go to sleep, I'm out in about 5-10 minutes and I sleep all night.
  • A little over six months ago, I did good to get 2 hours of sleep a night and not all at the same time.
  • I like podcasting.
  • That's about it for this week, till next time.

Stay blessed, cause I am.

Catching Up

  • Been catching up on all kinds of things this weekend since Chirs worked the Nascar @ TMS
  • I got a new assignment at work, I'll be off the street for a little while doing some "administrative work".
  • It is hard not to get addicted to Facebook.
  • Due to things I found out in the barn, I think I've turned into a Numismatic.
  • The wind has blown some shingles off the barn, one day, when it quits blowing, I'm going to have to get up there and fix it.
  • I really don't see how people get caught up in Internet scams.
  • The very first Bridgeport Police Officer to die in the line of duty was Sgt. Randy White. He died this week protecting the good folks of Wise County...sad...sad...sad.
  • I have fertilized my yard twice this Spring, newsflash...weeds still here.
  • Chrishas taken up "fiddle" playing...let the sounds of pure heaven begin.
  • Bosses Pizza in Lake Worth has the best pizza in the history of the world.
  • Sometimes I wish I lived in another Country, I'm not sure where, but sometimes I think it could be cool.
  • Work is still going absolutely fantastic...I could not have made a better decision.
  • There are some folks at work that read this blog...they tell me about it...I get sorta paranoid cause I didn't know how they knew things about me until they told me about the blog.
  • I'm a little upset about American Idol's "Megan Joy" getting kicked off last week, I liked her tattoo, but when she danced I would almost throw up.
  • The new Osborne show on Fox is terrible.
  • I will try to post more later and give some updates about this and that, until then...have a great one.

They just keep on coming, unbelievable...unbelievable.

Jayden Kyle Arrington - Hits Big # 1

Jayden is happy to open presents...
And he loves cupcakes...
Happy First Birthday!!!!!!
I am so proud to be this little guy's Paw Paw
just one of many reasons I am so blessed...

"Hitting Pay Dirt"

The term "hitting pay dirt" leads me to believe that something positive had occurred. A successful outcome to whatever type of project you were working on, a happy moment, positive situation, etc. It does not lead me to think of something in a negative way. In fact, Dictionary. Com explains the term this way..."any source of success or wealth, a fortunate discovery or profitable venture". So my view and understanding of the term is really not that far off. This leads me into the main topic of this post...this week's edition of the Azle News and its coverage of drugs being found at Azle High School.
Last week, Azle Police found drugs in 12 vehicles in the parking lot via a K-9 detection dog from Bridgeport Police Department. Officer David Vanderkaay stated that they usually only find one vehicle each time the dog comes to the school. Chief Myers stated that “It’s a big concern. Existing education programs don’t address the fact that the vast majority (of drug use by teens) is coming from prescriptions from the home." The story ends by saying that the Azle Police Department will be hosting "Shattered Dreams" this month.
In regards to the whole "pay dirt" thing...the story says that the "dog outside (in the parking lot) hit pay dirt. REALLY? Finding drugs in kids cars is hitting pay dirt? Finding drugs in 12 vehicles was a fortunate discovery? Do you really view this as success? I would also like to know what research Chief Myers has conducted concerning "existing education programs". How does he know that they do not address prescription drug use? What data is present that affirms his statement that the vast majority of drugs used by teen is coming from prescriptions from the home?
Tarrant County Challenge (tcchallenge.org) research does not support this statement and I would think they have done a bit more research than Chief Myers has. There are many "existing education programs" that cover the issue of prescription drugs...D.A.R.E. , T.E.A.M. and L.E.T.S. ALL cover prescription drug use. So I'm not sure what more education he wants. The Shattered Dreams Program is an anti-alcohol program sponsored by TABC. It is a fantastic program that focuses 100% on drinking and driving...not prescription drug use...I really am unsure why this was even mentioned in the article.
The fact remains...reaction to the problem continues to prevail...always playing defense... My hope and prayer is that some day...one guy within the Azle Police Department will quit putting bandaids on an arterial wound...if that were to happen...that would be hitting pay dirt.

Hump Day Thoughts

  • Sorry I have not posted in awhile, but I've been very busy.
  • My grandson turned one year old last Thursday, we had his party on Sunday at mom's house. He sure is a handsome little guy and enjoyed his cupcake, pics later.
  • I had one of the best weekends that I can remember last weekend. Chris and I took Layla to Highland Village and camped at Pilot Knoll Park. Although the weather was a bit cool, Chris and I got to spend some great quality time together relaxing and unwinding from the day to day grind. It is great to spend uninterrupted time with your very best friend.
  • I've got to get some TV time in this week, my DVR is almost full.
  • Chris and I went a saw Slumdog Millionaire last Saturday...good movie...but I did not see it as 8 Oscar worthy.
  • I went to the Azle City Council Meeting last night, more about that later.
  • Layla is too tall for the carport next to my shop, Layla is 9'10" and the carport is 9'03". We have called the building guy and he is coming soon to "raise the roof".
  • Tonight is left over night...oh boy...oh boy...
  • I got a new t-shirt this week...it has a pic of a sleeping bag and cookware on a open fire and says..."Bed and Breakfast"...cute...thanks Chris.
  • If you guys have not seen what Chris got for me, see Chris' blog. She took several of my Masonic photos and had them professionally matted and framed...they look unbelievable. She has now created a true family heirloom for me to p[ass down to my grandson...yes, I cried.
  • You will not believe the next project she is working on, it is going to blow you away.
  • Last night's Biggest Loser...the brown team's dad needs to go...I'm just saying.
  • Spring is coming...the weeds almost need to be mowed in the yard.
  • My 1995 F150 pulls Layla great with the exception of a little horsepower issue...I'm thinking about upgrading the ignition and putting a performance chip in her to give her that needed boost.
  • Chris had surgery yesterday and is recovering just fine.
  • There was a very interesting article in the Azle newspaper this week...more about that later also.
  • Chris just got home and I think we are going to town to get some gas...I'll be back later to post about the council meeting last night, Jayden's birthday pics and the newspaper article.

Blessed beyond belief...

Whats on my mind on a late Monday night

  • I'm starting this post at 11:59PM, so it is still officially "Monday"
  • I finally got a day off after a four day stretch of 12-hour shifts...I got to spend some quality time with "Layla".
  • You have to jack the trailer up and down 3 times to properly hook up the leveler hitch...today, Layla got an electric jack.
  • I want to see Slumdog Millionaire...it really blew the other movies away during the Oscars.
  • I can't stand Sean Penn.
  • If I am not listening to talk radio, I usually listen to 98.7 KLUV.
  • KLUV plays "oldies"...the other day I heard Prince's Purple Rain and thought "oldies?"...I went and saw him in concert in Dallas when I was about 18...his music can't be oldies.
  • I put a masonic decal and the "Arringshill - Keeter, Texas" sticker on Layla today, I'm ready to go camping now...I can't wait.
  • I really like the new Dirks Bentley song..."Feel that Fire"
  • I need to go to bed now...got to get up early and get some things done.

Everyone take care and talk soon....

"LAYLA"

Here we are...we are refered to as "RVers" now...but we will still answer to Greg and Chris.
Here is Chris being silly...as usual.

I on the other hand, like to be serious as I "think" about it all...

Hump Day Thoughts

  • It was nice spending a "weekday" with my wife...
  • I just spent the last two days in training...very good topic...very informative.
  • We brought the trailer home today...her name is Layla.
  • Next weekend = Pilot Knoll Park on Lake Lewisville.
  • Pics to follow in next post.
  • President Bush moved into his new house today...I think it is silly about all the hype about that on the local news.
  • I am so friggin glad that the weird girl "Tatiana" got kicked off American Idol tonight.
  • Just to let you know, toilet paper for travel trailers is expensive.
  • Watched a new show tonight "Lie to me" pretty cool...it just happens to be the topic of the class I just had this week.
  • My truck pulls the trailer fine, better than I really expected, I'm sure it is due to the leveling hitch they put on today...that thing is neat.
  • We did not have to pay any taxes this year, we got a pretty good return, I am very thankful for that.
  • Chris and I went to Saltgrass today...man, that place has great food.
  • I took a nap in the trailer today...just to see how it was going to feel...I slept like a rock.
  • Winter is Texas is weird...it really has not been cold at all this winter...one little ice storm...that's it so far.
  • It is neat having James Avery Jewelry in the city where I work...it makes things "easy"
  • No doubt about it...the blessing continues.

The "A" TEAM

(l to r) Sgt. P. Kimberlin, Ofc. D. Jones, Cpl. J. Cameron, Ofc. G. Arrington (me) and Ofc. A. Oldaker

Just wanted to post a pic of the "A" Team guys. We say "A-TEAM" because of our shift designation, it just worked out that way. But while we are on the subject of team, I would like to put my two cents in about our little group.

I began wearing a badge in 1987, that my friends was 22 years ago...I have worked with a bunch of people over the years...I have worked for, worked with and supervised many "teams" during this time period. Some "teams" worked well, other did not, some just had the word "team" attached and that was all.

Don't get me wrong, I've had some great teams...The group of officers I assembled for the Azle Police C.R.U was some of the best, great stats, great motivation, great attitude, Terry, Greg, Rex, Jimmy, David, Kevin...we made some progress no doubt...but there was always something was missing.

I can honestly say, that in 22 years of doing "this" ...whatever "this" is...I have never had a team like I do right now. I have never worked with others that everyone had the same goals and desires. Much of the credit goes to Sgt. Kimberlin and Cpl. Cameron for their direction and mentoring...but still...something is different about all of us. I have done much thinking about "us" over the past couple of months and I have come to the conclusion...this big difference about this team and the others that I have been assigned to is that there is nothing missing.

We each know what the other is thinking...we are each others left and right hands...we know what needs to be done, we know how to do it and we go forward and accomplish, day in and day out without fail...22-years it had taken for me to find out what a true team really is...22-years...sad but yet inspiring because I can't wait to experience more.

I write that I am blessed...I tell people that I am blessed...this is just one little reason.

My trip to the "New" Wild Onion Resturant

This restaurant is an icon around these parts. It was once owned and operated by a family that have had roots in the area for over 100 years. A few years ago, that family retired and the restaurant was put on the market and sold. A new owner came in, kept the name and menu and gave it a go...Christine and I went on two occasions, not good and we just did not go back. Since the restaurant is right down the street from us, we saw that it had closed again and from the service and quality we received when we went, we could defiantly understand. Jump to January 2009, the restaurant has once again opened. Christine and I were excited and decided to go last Thursday evening...after our trip...I will never walk through those doors again. I have come to the conclusion, the Wild Onion will never be the same as it once was. Chris and I get there at about 7PM and the place was pretty much empty. We decided to sit in the large "family" room downstairs and began to look over the menu. We noticed that the prices had really gone up, but that's okay... We decide to order an appetizer...fried mushrooms..."we are out. sorry" the little waitress says. Okay, we will just order, we didn't need any mushrooms anyway. Chris decided on her favorite, the pork chops...opps...no pork chops....the little waitress informed us that the "owner put them in her car and took them home". What??? Do you have any food here?", I asked. So we decided on the old standby, Chicken Fried Steak and ordered. We then went up stairs to get a salad, it was okay but the lettuce was beginning to turn brown and they have taken the cornbread dressing off the salad bar...darn it...I loved me some cornbread dressing. So we go back downstairs and eat out salad and the waitress comes up and lets us know that "it's gonna be awhile, we had to make some fresh gravy". Ok, no problems. The food arrives, oh boy...we are going to have some great Chicken Fried Steak...uh...not so fast. My greenbeans were cold and my steak batter was not cooked. I mean when I cut into the steak, the batter was a gooey flour paste and in some places was just still flour... I got pissed...I mean real pissed. I'm not so sure that I got mad because of the food itself, I think I got mad because of the trashing of the namesake that is the "Wild Onion". It was an icon, a family place...a place were you went and people knew you like part of the family. To tell you the truth, it was alot like eating in your own house. It should be a crime what they have done to it. These new owners just need to shut the doors and let the old building rest in peace. So to sum it up, if you are hungry and want to go to a restaurant to eat, don't go to the Wild Onion, they might not have anything on the menu and what they do have will suck.

The Day After Hump Day Thoughts

  • I have been very busy lately.
  • We are getting a new CAD and RMS (Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System) System at work. We had training today, so far, look very user friendly.

  • I have mixed emotions about Google's new "latitude" program.
  • I am thinking about getting another tattoo soon...I am not even going to try to explain what it is going to be...I'll post pics when I get it.
  • The new Chevy Camaro might just be the most awesome vehicle even to be made (with the exception of a 4-door Jeep).
  • My wife got a blackboard for Christmas, we hung in on the back porch...she puts very motivational messages on it each week...neat idea...it keeps me focused.
  • My wife and I had one of the very best weekends in a long time last weekend. I enjoyed it very much.

Baby it's cold outside!!!!!

Well, winter has hit in Texas. 25 degrees and sleeting...crap...how in the world am I going to drive 40 miles on the frozen tundra??? Answer...hotel room, Lewisville, Texas.
Yep, I'm hunkered down for the blizzard 5 miles away from work. I checked in around noon, no big problems yet, but man, by morning it is going to be nasty. My corporal who lives in Sanger (7 miles North of Denton) is staying in the room right next door too.
If I had my trailer by now, this would all be a mute point. Christine and I would be out at the lake with the kittens I am sure. But hopefully it will not be too much longer until I get the vacation house on wheels.
Banana pancakes for breakfast and fajitas for dinner...you know, camping food.
So, nobody worry, I'm safe and sound right here in Lewisville and I'll make it to work in the morning for sure.
Got to go, we are going to Cracker Barrel for dinner...yummy, yummy

Drive Thru Happiness

Today for lunch I pull into the local fast food restaurant's drive thru window. I order my lunch and the guy tells me how much it is and to pull forward.
I sit in line behind a gold colored BMW waiting. The BMW pulls away and I go to the window with my money in hand. The guys at the windows says" no charge, the guy in the BMW paid for it"...no way....for real??? I am again told, for real, no charge.
I look in my rear view mirror and see a car behind me, I paid for their lunch and got my order and then left and pulled down into the parking lot across the street from the restaurant.
The lady in the car behind me pulls up next to me and says thanks and tells me she paid for the car behind her.
I sit there for awhile and eat my lunch and then drive away. I come back through the area about an hour later and as I drive through the parking area of the restaurant the manager comes out and flags me down. He asked if I was the officer that came through the drive thru about an hour ago that had someone pay for me and that I paid for the next guy. I say yes, he smiles and said that a total of 17 vehicles did that after the guy in the BMW started it.
No matter how bad a day I'm going to have in the future, I will always remember this day...as it will always bring a smile to my face.
Drive Thru Happiness...
You ought to try it sometime...

Hump Day Thoughts

  • First and foremost, Happy New Year.
  • Alot of good shows are starting this month, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Life on Mars, Biggest Loser...my DVR will be on overload.
  • Podcasting...Rocks.
  • I will not list my new year resolutions...there is no way I can compete with my Brother-in-Law's post...
  • When my cat sneezes, I laugh.
  • I really like the commercial where the guy hits the nun's van...I think it is for Nationwide Insurance.
  • We went to 12-hours shifts at work...love it...love it...love it.
  • I'm not even going to try to explain my schedule but every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday I get off.
  • Christine and I saw "7 Pounds" with Will Smith...unsure of what to say.
  • It drains me down when I walk into a store or any place in uniform and someone says..."I didn't do it" or "there he is officer...he did it" and points to one of his friends and laughs.
  • Carrie Underwood was on the People Choice Awards tonight....stunning...absolutly stunning.
  • I think Rascal Flatts sound better on CD than live.
  • I really felt sorry for Dallas Police Chief Kunkle during last night's press conference concerning the death of one of his officers.
  • I hate wearing a black band across my badge...I just hate it.
  • Due to all the problems with people shooting their guns into the air on New Year's Eve...I am thinking about making an umbrella made out of Kevlar.
  • I remember living on the Northside of Ft. Worth and having to leave on New Year's eve night because of all the gunfire.
  • It sleeted on Monday and Tuesday I wore short sleeves, today, I wore shorts.
  • I saw gas for $1.55 today and thought...Man, gas is getting expensive again.
  • My best friend's son leaves for San Diego next week...Marine Corp. boot camp, it seems like yesterday he was just a little kid. We all went to lunch today, he gave me a hug goodbye and got in his truck and drove away...I cried as he pulled out of the driveway.
  • I have got to say that I am living in one of the very best times of my life right now...I am so blessed, it is truly amazing.

Later my friends.

"CITY PRIDE"

Pride:
1: the quality or state of being proud: as a: inordinate self-esteem : conceit b: a reasonable or justifiable self-respect Okay?????

Get 'em while they're Hot!!!!

While driving through beautiful downtown Azle, Texas yesterday, Christine and I stumbled upon this sign. We were both so excited, finally, we now know where to get this service. We have been looking and looking all over to find a place like this, and now...look at the sign...it gives us all the information we need to get all the service we want from this place.
All we have to do now is call...and set up an appointment...and the number is right there on the sign.
Sometimes, when you are least expected...things just fall right into your lap.
